As I walk, the wind whipping at my face,
I see in the distance the raw cliffs of the Peninsula crushed by waves.
The clouds soften the harsh seascape and the memories that linger on this beach,
Of moments snatched from studious intentions.
Friends sitting on the beach each with a book in hand,
Pretending that the information sinks in,
But distracted by the freedom of the waves lapping at their feet.
Steps in the sand towards an unknown future,
Beyond summer romances and drunken dances,
Beyond moonlight swims, cold skin and warm bodies,
Beyond youth unencumbered by the realities of life.
A second chance to grasp this freedom lies within my grasp here tonight,
Another glimpse of endless possibilities.
A feeling stirring in my chest.
Uncovered by the weight that has dropped among the dunes,
And swept away by that gust of wind.
Dare I dream again.…
